The background of this project is based on pedagogical experience which reveals that our students do not have appropriate knowledge of the community of the European Union, although they were born in one of its countries. In order to gain community development, it is crucial to support the youth to be able to participate and active in the life of the Union. To become European citizen without understanding and knowing other nations’ values, cultures and traditions is impossible. 

The outcome of our pedagogical experience made us interested in other teachers’ impressions about this matter in our European partner schools. We have made a EU-quiz and turned to our partners to test and assess their students’ knowledge about the European Union and the notion of it. As a result of common process of research and assessment we have started to thinking about in what way we can mediate cultural and practical characteristics of European value also how we can motivate them to become an active citizen of the Union.

Seven countries’ seven schools from Hungary, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Sweden and Turkey made a mutual agreement in order to contribute and fulfil this project. The countries represent different parts and cultures of Europe, ensuring the diversity of the project.

Significant parts of the project are based on interactive activities with the aim of developing intercultural communicative competence of students. Improving competences is a complex process, comprises a complex combination of development of knowledge, skills and attributes. We also emphasize the importance of improving all the elements of social competences, which are necessary for defining values, attitudes and habits, they play leading role in the direction of a person towards his or her goals. Apart from the improvement of intercultural competence the digital competence and digital skills appear horizontally as fundamental segments of the project. A cooperative partnership is unimaginative without digital competence, completing tasks, making and displaying presentations, doing research, searching for information, interaction and communication with the partners are all depend on effective use of digital devices and technologies.

Six fields of intercultural sphere are focused in this project, namely national parks and nature reserves, world heritage sites, traditions, public holidays, national holidays and gastronomy.

Apart from national processes of the topics there are six project meetings (students’-teachers’ mobility) of the whole period of the project. The aim of the project can be realised completely on international level, which is based on personal communications, and conversations between the partners. Student and teacher mobilities embedded in the project are intended for exchange of experiences, share of information and build personal relationships.

Participants get acquainted with the cultures of the countries through interactive tasks, they display photos, videos and presentations. The host country has roles such as organises exhibitions, programmes, quizzes, performance, excursions about the given topic on the occasions of 5 day long partner sessions.

By the contribution, the students will be able to improve intercultural communication competences, expend their knowledge of culture, communicate between cultures and adapt effectively new cultural environment. Having new personal relations, new friendships improve personality development, students will become open-minded and active members of European society. The participating institutions organize project management teams to ensure responsible implementation of the project.
